Self Care Tip #12: Celebrate yourself
Stress can be incredibly consuming. Anxiety can seep into your daily thoughts without your permission. Going to sleep after a long and stressful day can lead to a restless night full of racing thoughts. It takes practice and control to learn how to mitigate the nasty effects of anxiety and stress, but it is well worth the time spent learning.
School is starting again and those of you going back to class may find that the the relaxing first few days will soon turn into panic, stress, and sleepless nights in the library. Before you let yourself start worrying about the things you have not done and all the things you still have left to do, be sure to take a few moments to remember the things you have accomplished. Whether or not the accomplishment was large, consider that getting an A on a difficult exam may be just as worthy of self-praise as remembering to do all of your dishes before going to bed. It is all relative to the goals you have set for yourself - and goals don’t have to be huge. Every day presents new challenges and new opportunities to learn and grow. Enjoy them. And celebrate them. You deserve it!
